Gratitude

The colossal power of Beethoven’s music inspires us like no other composer, and the central movement of his string quartet no. 15, written in the painful last years of his life, is a “Holy song of gratitude.” As part of Carnegie Halls season-long celebration of the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s birth, Read650 and the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center will collaborate to present a New Year’s celebration of healing arts: a curated series of five-minute, 650 word stories of gratitude from noted essayists, memoirists, and novelists, followed by the New York Classical Players performing Beethoven’s profound quartet no. 15.

A library is so much more than books on a shelf, and many of the things we gain from libraries stay with us for a lifetime. Curated by Read650’s founder and editor, Edward McCann, the personal essays in this show are presented in celebration of National Library Week.

Holidays

Sunday, October 21, 3-5PM

Ossie Davis Theater - New Rochelle, NY

A time to celebrate our cultural traditions, a holiday breaks routines, prompting a three-day weekend in the sun or a three-hour snow delay at the airport. Some holidays are lightweight and fun, others freighted with tradition and obligation. Often a time of high emotion, holidays trigger happy memories or set the stage for family drama. Let’s hear your holiday stories—from sunburn to heartburn.

Ossie Davis Theater at the New Rochelle Public Library. Made possible with grants from the New Rochelle Council on the Arts, Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library, and suggested minimum donations of $10. A wine and cheese reception will follow the show.
